Have you ever seen the stamping process of a progressive die?

The link is a video taken at our company's stamping tool shop -----This is a set of dies our company makes for a Czech customer. The punch press used is 500 tons. It is an exhaust part of an automotive.

一、Stamping process

Stamping is a process in which the stamping machine cuts, separates and deforms the material following a certain contour shape to obtain the required shape and size of a stamping part. The production process is basically divided into the following steps:

1.Preparation of raw materials: including preparation and cutting

2.Blank heating: In order to improve the cutting performance of the metal, sometimes it is necessary to heat the blank, but to a proper extent, otherwise it will cause temper brittleness. The heating temperature depends on the performance of the specific material used, the type of blank and the actual circumstances.

3. Forming process: forming, flanging, etc., with a variety of molds to achieve plastic deformation of materials, to meet the various shapes and accuracy as required by the drawings.

4. Blanking process: the hole or groove of the desired shape is flushed out of the sheet metal by the stamping die.

5. Finishing process: including punching shaping, trimming, finishing, pickling, etc

二. Application range of stamping process

The stamping process is widely used in the automotive industry, and almost all metal parts used in the automotive manufacturing industry are manufactured by the stamping process. The most used in the stamping process is sheet metal stamping and forging. Parts such as the body frame on the car are also produced by the stamping process. Most parts of the car body, such as doors, car covers, body girders and bogies, are made from thick steel plates through a series of stamping processes. In addition, many auxiliary parts on the car such as ventilation pipes, fenders, backrest, etc., are also manufactured by the stamping process. For parts with complex shapes or small numbers, other pressure processing methods are usually used, such as precision casting, precision forging, etc. However, the mass production of parts in the automotive industry is still done by stamping, because of its high production efficiency, high material utilization rate and the ability to achieve less cutting or no cutting processing. Due to the use of new forming technology and high-quality materials, the application range of stamping process is still expanding.
